Dr. Elizabeth Illy on HÜBNER Photonics commitment to sustainability

During the recent EPIC Annual General Meeting, Dr. Elizabeth Illy, Head of Marketing at HÜBNER Photonics, provided insightful updates on the company’s ongoing sustainability initiatives. As co-chair of the Epic Sustainability Working Group, Dr. Illy discussed both the motivations behind and the progress of HÜBNER Photonics’ sustainability journey.

As she notes,

This cultural backdrop inspired the company to formalize its environmental policies, aiming to showcase its own sustainability efforts and inspire broader industry adoption.

The introduction of stringent EU directives on sustainability has further propelled many in the industry to adopt and embrace greener economic initiatives. Although compliance with these directives might initially appear cumbersome, she wants to emphasize the long-term benefits of the practices.

Moreover, she highlights the role of the EPIC Sustainability Working Group in offering support to smaller companies who are in the process of navigating sustainability challenges. The group provides a centralized portal with resources, tips, and contacts, thus facilitating industry-wide knowledge sharing. By fostering collaboration and sharing insights, HÜBNER Photonics and the Epic Sustainability Working Group aim to lead the photonics industry towards a greener future.
