New compact ultrafast lasers for simultaneous 2 and 3 photon microscopy
Dr. Jan Ahrens, R&D Engineer at VALO Innovations, presents the poster at the latest FOM meeting (Focus on Microscopy) in Taipei, Taiwan.
A new generation of ultrafast fiber laser systems is enabling simultaneous two- and three-photon microscopy for the first time.
These lasers generate sub-40 femtosecond (fs) pulses with a broadband optical spectrum, allowing efficient second and third harmonic generation (SHG & THG) signals to be detected through standard microscope objectives.
This results in high peak power with low average power, reducing photodamage and photobleaching, making them ideal for long-term studies of living cells and tissues.
